Daucus carota sativus, the cultivated carrot is very closely related to the wild carrot, or Queen Anne's Lace, both members of the great culinary family the Apiaceae or Umbelliferaes. (Other members include parsley, cilantro/coriander, dill, fennel, chervil, celery, caraway, cumin, parsnips, and anise. Also, regrettably, deadly poison hemlock.) For 2011, we are growing several varieties of carrots, the first arrival being the orange-colored Scarlet Nantes, an early, sweet, crisp cultivar.
